Office Structure

To effectively carry out its diverse responsibilities, the State Attorney's Office operates within a well-defined structure that encompasses various components, each with specific roles and functions. The department is divided into various offices that each handle their own assignments and responsibilities. Each office is led by an Assistant State Attorney, excluding the Press Secretary's Office. The entire office is overseen by the State Attorney and the Deputy State Attorney. The offices within the department can be found below.

Office of the State Attorney

The State Attorney is selected by the County Executive with consent and advice by the County Commission. They are charged with overseeing the department, delegating all responsiblities and authorites to the department as necessary for the faithful execution of the laws, and providing legal advice or report to the county government where necessary.

Office of the Deputy State Attorney

As the second-in-command of the department, the Deputy State Attorney is charged with assisting the State Attorney in managing the department in all areas necessary. In times of absence of the State Attorney, the Deputy State Attorney is charged to assume the responsibilities and powers in an acting capacity until the vacancy or inability ends.

Homicide & Major Crimes Division

In an effort to stifle and control Broadview County's high homicide rate, the State Attorney's Office organized the Homicide & Major Crimes Unit which works in coordination with the Broadview County Sheriff's Office to identify, investigate, and prosecute in common street offenses to ensure a liquid justice system.

Civil Litigation Office

The Civil Litigation Office is the county-level counterpart of the Solicitor General's Office. In all civil cases where Broadview County is lawfully mandated or allowed to intervene, the Civil Litigation Office represents the interests of the Government and leads all appellate efforts on behalf of the office at-large.

County Investigations Office

The County Investigations Office is a part-time bureau of law enforcement officers within Broadview County that are retained by the State Attorney's Office. These detectives undergo rigorous training on evidence collecting, testimony taking, and other practices related to criminal investigations. The County Investigations Office is led by a Chief Investigator and works directly under the State Attorney, or their designate.

Public Accountability Unit

Corporations and agencies of the government have a duty to always be transparent, faithful to the laws and rules bound to it, and working in the interest of the public. The Public Accountability Unit is responsible for investigating incidents of alleged government corruption or white collar crimes, prosecuting those responsble, and resolving amicable settlements to rectfy any damages. The office also prosecutes incidents involving members of the government even if the incident is unrelated to their duties.

The State Attorney's Office is no different to any other government agency in its responsibility to maintain transparency with the community. The Public Affairs & Photography Division is tasked with maintaining this transparency by writing press releases, advisories to the media, and organizing press conferences of the latest news regardng the State Attorney's Office.

Justice Outreach Program

The Justice Outreach Program is overseen by the Press Secretary though it is organized more for public awareness of the services provided by the State Attorney's Office. This includes organizing victim compensation funds, creating programs to encourage victims of crime to report such offenses, and working with offenders of the law to a peaceful resoluton of their criminal case.
